What 22 Years Of Working With Business Owners Has Taught Me About Success

In business and in life, growth often comes from stepping outside your comfort zone and this month, I’m doing just that.
On 30th October at Hardwick Hall Hotel, I’ll be swapping the boardroom for the ballroom as part of Team Fabulous Babulous at the Strictly Nuvo Ball, an incredible fundraising event hosted by Nuvo Wellbeing. Alongside Vic Morgan (Venture Stream) and John Beamson (CEO Adventurer), we’ll be taking to the floor to perform, compete and most importantly, make a difference.
For years, Nuvo Wellbeing has been at the forefront of improving physical, mental and emotional health across communities in the North East. Through their inclusive dance classes, fitness programmes and outreach initiatives, they’ve inspired thousands of people from children to older adults to move more, feel better and connect with others.
Their next chapter is just as inspiring:
Transforming the Children’s Ward garden at North Tees Hospital
Creating Nuvo Dance Academies to give young people access to movement, creativity and confidence
It’s projects like these that make the Strictly Nuvo Ball more than just an event, it’s a movement for wellbeing, growth and connection.
As someone who spends much of his professional life in the world of digital wellbeing helping businesses grow online without losing the human touch supporting a cause that promotes health and happiness offline feels incredibly meaningful.

At Myk Baxter Marketing, I’m used to strategising from the top floor managing teams, projects and digital transformations for businesses across the UK and beyond. But for this challenge, I’ve traded analytics for dance shoes, joining Team Fabulous Babulous for a good cause and a healthy dose of humility!
This isn’t just about learning a few steps. It’s about embracing discomfort, leading by example and showing that real growth whether in business or life happens when you say yes to the unfamiliar.
After recently climbing Mount Toubkal in Morocco as part of the CEO Adventurer Leadership Expedition, this next challenge is a little less altitude… and a lot more attitude. But the core values are the same: leadership, resilience, teamwork and pushing beyond what feels comfortable.
In today’s hyperconnected world, it’s easy to get lost in the noise of notifications, algorithms and targets. Yet leadership isn’t defined by what we do behind a screen, it’s about how we show up in the real world.
Events like the Strictly Nuvo Ball remind us that success isn’t just measured in sales or strategy but in impact, connection and the difference we make to others. Supporting organisations like Nuvo Wellbeing keeps us grounded in that truth.
The Strictly Nuvo Ball takes place on 30th October at Hardwick Hall Hotel, bringing together North East businesses, leaders and local talent for an unforgettable night of entertainment all in the name of wellbeing.

Whether you’re dancing, donating or simply cheering us on, your support will help transform lives, one step at a time.
From mountain summits to dance floors, I’ve learned that leadership isn’t just about guiding others, it’s about challenging yourself. Every time we step into discomfort, we discover new strengths, new perspectives and new ways to make an impact.
And this time, I’ll be doing it under the lights, with rhythm, purpose and a lot of gratitude for an organisation that continues to change lives for the better.
