An Insight into the Turkish eCommerce Market

For the next two weeks, MBM’s leading man, Myk Baxter is downing his tools & vacating to the beautiful country of Turkey.

Due to its clear blue seas, white sandy beaches & of course the incredible food & culture, this transcontinental haven is beloved by us brits as a great holiday destination but did you know Turkey has the 18th largest market for eCommerce?

With its 2021 revenue of US billion set to increase across the next year & as a nod to Myk’s trip, over the next week we’ll be taking a look into the Turkish eCom market, discussing how we at Myk Baxter Marketing can help to assist the countries businesses & documenting on Mr MBM’s own trip.

Who makes up the Turkish market & what are they shopping for?

From a report run by Twentify, it’s been identified that the demographic of Turkish shoppers is equally split into males & females, with 55% of the whole market being in the age range of 20 – 35-year-olds. Those aged 45+ fell closely behind making up 35% of the group.

With an average age of 38.2, we understand this is due to the young population of Turkey, in particular in the Marmara Region of North-West Turkey.

But what are they shopping for?

Well-considered by ecommerceDB, this is split into five categories. Firstly, & unsurprisingly, Fashion is the largest segment in the market & holds 42% of the Turkish eCommerce revenue. Electronics & Media comes second with 21% followed by; Toys, Hobby & DIY (19%), Furniture & Appliances (11%) & Food & Personal Care (7%).

Across the countries’ many eCommerce platforms, it’s found that loyalty scores & registered customer rates have a high influence on the countries’ revenue with increasing customer loyalty being one of the top priorities for businesses. Naturally, this all begins with a great loyalty program, with retail giant Trendyol acting this well.

Who are Turkey’s leading eCommerce companies?

Turkey’s eCommerce market covers every consumer need, from the latest trending fashion to motor vehicles. See the list below for those companies that are taking it by storm:

Gitti Gidiyor: As a subsidiary of eBay, this e-shopping marketplace offers a wide range of products from clothing & footwear to collectables. Gitti Gidiyor provides buyers & sellers alike with a platform to offer stores, auctions, fixed price listings & daily deals.

Hepsiburada: With more than 50 million different products available at the touch of a button, Hepsiburada is Turkey’s leading shopping platform. With clothes, electronics & even groceries, everything you need can be found here.

Araba.com: Whether you want to buy or sell a car, find the value of your vehicle or gain the most suitable motor/or traffic insurance offer, Araba allows you to do it all through their site. They are even acknowledged as Turkey’s Car Market.

Trendoyl: As one of Turkey’s leading fashion retailers, Trendoyl covers all manner of trends through their great selection of clothing, sportswear, footwear & accessories. It’s so sought after that it’s even stocked online at Next & Little Mistress here in the UK.

What’s predicted for the Turkish eCommerce market

Over the next year, Turkey’s eCommerce market is expected to rocket up to US.47 billion in revenue through an increase in the number of businesses utilising mobile web & shopping apps. As we touched on earlier, eCommerce users have a younger demographic & we there predict that the introduction of these shopping formats will only increase this demographic in 2022 and beyond.
