A Guide on Taking Your Business Global | eCommerce Expert

Author: Myk Baxter

So your business is rooted in British soil, but have you ever thought about or are thinking about taking it global?

Firstly, if you are this is a huge leap but is one that can be achieved if approached in the correct way & with time & care. Secondly, to assist you in this journey I today will be sharing my thoughts & guidance on some of the steps needed to be taken to fulfil global business domination.

Know The International Market. What Sells Where?

You may have solidified your market at home, but when making the shift into the international market you want to first identify the countries you wish to expand into. These decisions should be based on where your selected market is most popular & the demographics of shoppers in each country.

I recently took a much-needed vacation in Turkey & during this time took the time to look into the Turkish eCommerce market through conversing with the country’s business owners & by reading online case studies.

With the above in mind, I’d advise taking a trip to your potential location(s), if you can & networking with professionals like yourself. You could even make connections through Linkedin first should you wish, form networks & arrange to meet during your visit. By throwing yourself into this physically, your research will become so much stronger & of course, we all love a business trip!

A Great eCommerce Platform is Key

Once you’ve identified your new international markets, you next want to begin the process of actually developing your assets & I’d advise that you first start with creating a great eCommerce platform.

This will play the most significant part in your global growth & by having this under your belt straight away the sooner you’re more likely to see customers flooding in.

As founder of a leading web development & digital marketing agency, my team & myself have great knowledge of what’s needed within an online shopping platform for a great user experience. This includes a faultless checkout process, great navigation & an aesthetic that suits your business branding & compliments your offering.

Host A Social Media Soft Launch

Prior to your new platform launch, I’d advise you to host a soft launch across your chosen social media channels.

Your choice of channel is completely up to you, but you ideally want to use those that have the most current traction. For example, Instagram & TikTok.

Once these have been created, you want to begin publishing buzz-worthy teasers that will bring in engagement & curiosity. Publishing about your current success stories from the UK can be used to encourage users to follow.

Have Faith

Putting all this aside, the most important thing in this effort is to have faith in what you’re doing & believe that anything is possible with hard work & commitment.

I myself have taken my UK-based agency across the globe allowing me to expand my client base in countries including Australia, Thailand & Spain.
